The Capital and Its Jewish Memory
Your private driver takes you north along the Atlantic to Rabat, Morocco’s graceful capital. Begin at the Kasbah of the Oudayas, perched above the mouth of the Bou Regreg river, its whitewashed walls and blue-painted doors among the most beautiful in all of Morocco. From there, explore the ancient Jewish Mellah of Rabat, one of the oldest in the country, before visiting the towering Hassan Tower and the serene Mausoleum of Mohammed V. DAY 4 - Through Meknes Towards Fez
An Imperial City and Its Eleven Synagogues
Departing Rabat this morning, your route takes you east toward Fez with a meaningful stop in Meknes: one of Morocco’s four imperial cities and one of the most significant chapters in the history of Moroccan Jewry. At its height, the Meknes mellah supported eleven synagogues. Your guide brings this history to life as you walk through the quarter, hearing the stories of scholars, merchants, and craftsmen who called this imperial city home. Continue onward through the afternoon to Fez, arriving in time for dinner and your first evening in one of the world’s most extraordinary medieval cities.

DAY 5 - Fez: The Soul of Jewish Morocco
Where Learning and Light Once Lived Together
Fez is the spiritual and intellectual capital of Morocco, and one of the most important cities in the history of Sephardic Jewish culture. Your private guide leads you through the ancient Jewish quarter, to the Ibn Danan Synagogue, an exquisite seventeenth-century building restored with the personal support of King Mohammed VI.
Nearby, a marker identifies the former home of Maimonides himself, who lived and studied in Fez between 1159 and 1165. Visit also the Slat al-Fassayine Synagogue, the Jewish cemetery, and walk through the wider medina where Jewish and Muslim craftsmen worked side by side for centuries.

DAY 6 - Day Trip to Sefrou: Little Jerusalem
Where a Third of the City Was Once Jewish
Thirty kilometers south of Fez, the road climbs gently into the Middle Atlas and arrives at Sefrou, known to those who know Morocco’s Jewish history as ‘Little Jerusalem.’ Before independence, Jews made up nearly a third of Sefrou’s entire population. Their roots here reach back to the thirteenth century, and some historians trace Jewish presence in this region to nearly two thousand years ago. Your guide leads you through the mellah, visiting preserved synagogues and the Jewish cemetery that spans nearly four hectares. Return to Fez this evening.

DAY 7 - Flight to Marrakech

DAY 8 - Marrakech: The Mellah and the Living Heritage
A Quarter Established in 1558
Marrakech’s Jewish quarter, established in 1558, is one of the oldest mellahs in Morocco. Your private guide leads you through its narrow lanes to the Lazama Synagogue, founded by Jewish exiles who fled the Spanish Inquisition and found refuge in Morocco. Its interior is a masterpiece of Moroccan-Jewish craft: hand-painted tiles, carved stucco, and a courtyard of extraordinary serenity. Visit the Rabbi Pinhas Synagogue, the oldest active synagogue in Marrakech, and the Miara Jewish Cemetery. DAY 10 - Towards Essaouira, Through the Vineyards

Departing Marrakech this morning, your route takes you west toward the Atlantic coast. Along the way, you stop at one of Morocco’s celebrated wineries, where vines planted in rich Moroccan soil produce wines of surprising elegance. You arrive in Essaouira in the late afternoon: a city of white walls, blue shutters, and the constant company of the Atlantic wind. DAY 11 - Essaouira: Bayt Dakira and the Memory That Remains

Opened in 2020 under the personal patronage of Andre Azoulay, adviser to King Mohammed VI and himself a son of Essaouira’s Jewish community, Bayt Dakira is one of the most moving institutions in Morocco. Housed in the former home of a wealthy Jewish merchant family, it contains the Slat Attia synagogue, rare objects, photographs, archival recordings, and the documented stories of remarkable Jewish figures this city produced. From Bayt Dakira, walk to the Haim Pinto Synagogue, then to the Jewish cemetery by the sea: one of the most quietly beautiful and contemplative places in all of Morocco, its tombstones looking out over the open Atlantic in eternal stillness.

DAY 12 - Towards Oualidia, Through Safi

Take time to walk the old city, visit the potters’ quarter, and feel the particular character of a Moroccan coastal town that most travelers never discover. This final full day is one of the most quietly extraordinary of the entire journey. Step aboard a traditional fishing boat and cross the lagoon to a secluded cove accessible only from the water, where a private lunch awaits: fresh, unhurried, utterly private. Afterwards, visit the oyster beds that have been lovingly tended here since the 1950s, learning the craft and tasting the finest the lagoon has to offer.
